Terms & Conditions

  1. General

    • "Russian Landscape" is an annual photographic competition that is open to everyone except for employees of the Non-for-profit Partnership of Photographers "Russian landscape", their families and relatives, as well as anyone else associated with this competition. Employees of the Sponsors and Partners who have not been directly involved in the organization of the present competition are eligible to participate. The owner of the competition is the Non-for-profit Partnership of Photographers "Russian Landscape".

    • All images must be taken in the Russian Federation.

    • All submitted photographs must be taken within ten years or earlier before the competition closing date. Images that have won an award (winners, runners-up, or special award winners) in other national or international competition, or those entered in such a competition where the results have not been announced yet, are not eligible for entry.

    • All competition images must be submitted digitally (scans from film are acceptable) and must be uploaded via www.russianscape.ru. No entries can be accepted by e-mail. No digital files will be returned, and all low-resolution images, apart from those short-listed, will be destroyed after the closing date of the competition.

  2. The Competition Stages

Image upload begins on March, 1 2011 and the closing date is May, 31 2011 (midnight, May, 31).

The list of winners and the best images will be published on www.russianscape.ru on September 1, 2011.

The exhibition opening and Landscape Photographer of the Year presentation will take place in Moscow on September 1, 2011.

  3. Age Groups

Russian Landscape is divided into two age groups — adult (legal age) participants and young (children) participants. For the competition purposes adult participants are considered those who have turned 18 by the end of the image upload period, i.e. for the Competition-2011 – those born before May, 31 1993. Young participants are considered those who have not turned 18 by the end of the image upload period, i.e for the Competition of year 2011 – those born after June, 1 1993.

Young participants may act for themselves, or in case they attend a children’s photo school, they may entrust their participation to their photo school director.

  4. Awards and Categories

The Competition is divided into two major nominations for each adult category – The Landscape Photographer of the Year and The Young Landscape Photographer of the Year. Each nomination consists of four categories:

    • Classical Landscape
    • Creative Landscape
    • Man in Landscape
    • Architectural Landscape

For further information on choosing a category, please see How to Enter section of the website.

The participant can upload up to 15 images for the competition. For example, you may submit 3 images in Classical Landscape category, 3 images in Man in Landscape category, 5 images in Creative Landscape, and 4 images in Architectural Landscape, or you may submit all fifteen images in only one category, e.g. Classical Landscape. Participants may submit the same image into more than one category, but each category keeps its own calculation of entries. For example, if you upload the same image into Classical Landscape category and Creative Landscape category, then it’ll be considered as 2 images upload.

The total number of images taken by a young photographer, represented by a photo studio is also limited to 15 images. Thus a photo studio director may submit up to 15 images per each participant.

In compliance with the Jury’s decision the best image photographer out of four adult categories will be announced as the overall winner among adult participants and the Landscape Photographer of the Year.

The best image photographer out of four categories for young participants will be announced as the overall winner among young participants and the Young Landscape Photographer of the Year.

  5. Image File Requirements

Every image must be taken using a sufficiently high resolution camera capable to reproduce the image in A4 size (at 300 ppi). We recommend using a camera of 9 mega pixels or more.

For your initial entry, all images should be uploaded in .jpeg format with 1000 pixels along the longest edge. When resizing your pictures, please make sure you do not save the smaller file over your original. For further information on selecting and resizing your images please see How to Enter section of the website.

Please make sure your camera has its highest-quality settings. Use RAW format.

You can also submit images scanned from film or negatives to all categories.

Black & white and panoramic images are acceptable.

Images containing frames, logos, captions etc. are not eligible for entry.

Short-listed participants will be required to upload high-resolution files of their images as they have good chances to be selected for the exhibition or the Photo Album. So you must be interested to upload the highest-quality scans.

  6. Copies

Please make sure you keep copies of submitted images. The organizers take all reasonable safety measures to ensure the safe storage and back-up of your images, but cannot be responsible for force-majeure.

  7. Digital Adjustments

Digital adjustments of entries are allowed. However, it is essential to maintain the integrity of the image and the making of physical changes to the landscape is not permitted. Removing or adding objects and inserting parts from another image are unacceptable. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any image when they doubt its authenticity due to over-manipulation.

  8. Entry Fees

    Adult participants:

    • 1 image: 300 roubles
    • Up to 5 images: 500 roubles
    • Up to 10 images: 750 roubles

If you pay for 5 images and successfully upload them for the competition, and later on you decide to submit five more, you will have to pay the full "five image" fee for this second transaction, rather than compensating for the difference between the "five image" and "ten image" fees. All participants in the shortlist will be notified by e-mail that they have 15 days to submit high-resolution files via Personal Profile on www.russianscape.ru. If for some reason an entrant fails to produce a high resolution file of the required size within the indicated time period, he/she will be struck off the shortlist. The organizers cannot be held responsible for emails that do not reach the addressee due to the entrant’s email security settings or restrictions placed by their Internet service provider.

The world-famous landscape photographers from our Jury will announce the overall winners (Landscape Photographer of the Year and Young Landscape Photographer of the Year) and the winners in each category. Highly commended images will be selected to be displayed at the exhibition and published in the book of the competition.

They will also choose the images to be displayed at the exhibition in 3D. National Geographic undertakes to contact the authors in order to get their consent to 3D filing. In case of refusal other images will be selected.

    • they own each image copyright;
    • they have the permission from the people pictured in the image (or, in case they are under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights and they will indemnify Russian Landscape against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement. This permission is not required in case “the person appears in a photo taken in public places or at public events (meetings, conventions, conferences, concerts, sporting events etc.) except for the cases when the person pictured in the image appears the only object of use’ (item 152.1 Civil Code RF);

Images that are used for promotional purposes under the treaty with the organizers will be discussed individually with their photographers and a separate agreement will be made.

  14. Such entries will be deemed as void and any fees paid will not be refunded.

By entering the competition, each participant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms by the participant will lead to voiding his/her entry. If a breach is discovered after the award of a prize, then the organizers may request the return of that prize.
